2013 Contest:
We at Torch and Press Start News are pleased to announce the Royal Rumble Retro Game Tournament. For this event we will be playing Pac-Man Championship Edition DX on Xbox 360. This event will take gaming back to its earliest form of competition. Players will be battling for the highest score that they can get, with the top 3 scores taking home the prize pots.
Each player will play a 5 minute Score Attack Mode on the Championship II Stage. In this mode, you will attempt to get the highest score you can within the 5 minute period or until you run out of lives. Do this by grabbing fruit, power pellets, chain eating ghosts, and any other strategy that you can think of. Check out this video to see it in action: http://youtu.be/d53XwhPfRCI.
Entry in the tournament is FREE for all. After each 5 minutes of play, if there is someone waiting to play, you will have to allow the next person in line to play and step to the back of the line. This will allow everyone to get at least one attempt in before game time ends. If time permits, each player will be able to play up to 3 times, with your highest score being chosen as your final score.
The tournament will begin at 10:30pm. Final sign up opportunities will end at 1:00am. If people are waiting to play after 1:00am, they will still be allowed to play, but no new signups will be allowed. The winners will be announced shortly thereafter.
The top three players will all receive two (2) all day play passes to Gamers Xperience in Lithonia, GA (http://www.gxgaming.com/). The second place player will receive a t-shirt from D. Rock City Designs (http://www.drockcity.com/), in addition to the Gamers Xperience passes. The first place player will receive the Gamers Xperience passes, a t-shirt from D. Rock City Designs, as well as a copy of Payday 2 for PS3, and a $25 gift card to GameStop provided by the Torch DNB Crew, (http://www.facebook.com/torchdnb).
Lastly, this is all in the spirit of fun. Please enjoy yourself and be respectful of other players. We do reserve the right to disqualify anyone from the tournament that we feel is being disruptive or disrespectful to other players, tournament organizers, event promoters, and the venue and its staff. This will be done without warning.
